Rail trip in the USA?
SmartBobMx asked the question:
I am planning a tour in the US, mainly I would like to visit natural places, see landscapes, farms, etc, I would like to travel by train (thinking in Amtrak dont know if there is other), but since i am from Mexico I need to arrive to an international airport, please advice me what route can I take, I want to know small towns, a sort of traditional American life, I have no idea where to arrive, I could be flexible depending the route I would take

You can get an Amtrak train( there are no others) in San Antonio and go to Chicago, from Chicago you can connect to anywhere. I would suggest going to Denver so you could see the farmlands of the mid-west. You would also enjoy Chicago and Denver. You could also consider taking greyhound bus…at least for part of your trip. They go everywhere and are cheaper than the train. They stop in small towns that the train just goes through. You can check the websites below to explore routes for both. After Denver…you can take the train through the Rocky Mountains…a really great trip and go to Utah and California. Then you can take the train or bus straight up the west coast to Washington…also a great trip. if you have any trouble using the Amtrak website, you can click on ‘contact us’ at the top of the page to get their phone number and you can call them for help planning a trip.
I would probably recommend the California Zephyr whcih runs from Chicago - Union Station, IL (CHI) to Emeryville, CA (EMY)
Passengers may check and retrieve baggage at the following stations.
Chicago, IL Union Station (CHI)
Omaha, NE (OMA)
Lincoln, NE (LNK)
Hastings, NE (HAS)
Denver, CO (DEN)
Glenwood Springs, CO (GSC)
Grand Junction, CO (GJT)
Salt Lake City, UT (SLC)
Reno, NV (RNO)
Sacramento, CA (SAC)
Davis, CA (DAV)
Martinez, CA (MTZ)
Emeryville, CA (EMY)
There is a lot of beautiful scenery along the way. Not sure if you have time to sight-see at any of the stops. Check link for more info
